5 houseplants that boost your productivity

It has been scientifically proven that indoor plants have a positive effect on people. Think of functional benefits, such as sound insulation and decoration. But they also have intrinsic qualities that positively influence the health, happiness and even the productivity of employees. To help you, we listed 5 houseplants that boost your productivity. So whether you work in an office or have a workspace at home, place one on your desk and you’re good to go!

Anthurium

NASA, the American National Aeronautics and Space Administration, investigated the best ways to filter the air in a space station, a couple of years ago. This way they discovered that certain houseplants can neutralize toxins in a natural way. And that means cleaner and fresher air in the office or your home. According to NASA, the anthurium is very effective at removing formaldehyde (a gas used in the production of leather, carpets and other products), ammonia, toluene and xylene from the air. This exotic plant is also very easy to care for, has few demands and remains beautiful for a long period of time. Ideal for in the office!

Golden Cane

Another houseplant that excels in purifying the air, is the golden cane (Areca Palm). This plant filters out hazardous and common toxins, such as formaldehyde, benzene (a chemical commonly found in glues, paints, plastics and detergents), trichlorethylene (found in solvents used in various synthetic materials) and toluene from the air. These are all substances that originate from materials such as building materials, textiles, paints, ink, cleaning agents and deodorants. Next to that, the plant can grow up to two meters high, so you need fewer plants to fill a room.

Philodendron

The philodendron is also good at purifying the air. An important advantage of plants that purify the air, is that they can help prevent complaints like headaches, dry eyes, respiratory problems, dizziness and concentration problems. Because they improve the air and concentration, they’re also ideal for office spaces. In addition, the philodendron is very strong, and you can hardly let it die. So it doesn’t matter that the plant will be the only one at the office during the weekends!

Rosemary

Research by neuroscientists in Newcastle has shown that the smell of rosemary improves memory and concentration. Place the plant in a light spot on your desk, and touch it occasionally to spread the smell – and therefore its effects.

Lavender

Just like rosemary, lavender has an improving effect on memory and concentration. Next to that, the scent of lavender also ensures relaxation and stress reduction. Therefore the fragrance of lavender is often processed in beauty products such as night creams.

These were five plants that boost your productivity! Which one do you have at your workplace?
